A quick search on Amazon reveals that there is a wide variety of Amazon items related to struggles and self-awareness. Many of us find things frustrating in order to feel better and more in control. For example, the “struggles” section of the Amazon description for the Kindle Fire HDX tablet reveals an array of issues and concerns. The most common issues include a lack of battery life and a slow Wi-Fi connection.
I’m a geek, not a nerd, so I can’t help but get a little aggravated by a lot of the things that are going on in the struggle category of Amazon. They’re a lot more useful to a geek than to a nerd for many reasons, and I think there are some things that are just downright dumb.
In the struggle section of the Kindle description, it states that “the touch screen can be used with the stylus for even more advanced, more intuitive control of the Kindle. You can use the stylus like a physical mouse” If you are, say, a diehard Android fan or maybe you used to be someone who was able to pick up a mouse to use with the Kindle, then you will know that this statement is just plain wrong.
There is no such thing as a “touch screen” and the term “gesture” is not even close to accurate. You can’t just use the stylus like a physical mouse and there is no such thing as that “gesture” mentioned in the description. The Kindle is a touch screen device which means there are two buttons on the front of the device. One for selecting text and one for making selections.
Yeah, yes you can. But then you’ll need to learn how to do it. It’s a bit like learning how to play the piano: The first time you learn how to play the piano, you do it completely by yourself.
The problem is that you have to learn to use the touch screen. Unlike the physical keyboard, the touch screen is not a flat surface so you cant just press a switch and it will change the color of your selection. Its a little like learning how to play the piano with a bow or a staff. You have to learn how to hold that part of your body, and to use that part of your body to make those selections.
Amazon recently released a new feature on the Amazon Kindle that allows people to have a single touch screen that works as both a keyboard and a touch screen. The problem is that at first it seemed like this was a great idea, but after experimenting with it, I felt that anyone who didn’t have a lot of experience using a touch screen would still get frustrated.
It was a bit of a surprise to see Amazon’s touch screen come to the Kindle, because with the physical keyboard, I feel like I got used to the physical keyboard more quickly. This is a bit of a shame, because I thought Amazon was working hard to make it as easy as possible to use touch screens. A touch screen is like a virtual keyboard on your phone or a remote control on your laptop. In a sense it’s even easier than a keyboard.
I can’t wait to get my hands on a Kindle, but I’m sure I’ll come to regret not using a touchscreen. I’m sure there is a lot of confusion out there about the capabilities of touch screens in general, but that doesn’t mean I believe there are any deficiencies. A touch screen can be a lot of different things in different scenarios.
When you’re on the internet, you can use a touch screen to create a list of all your apps, and all of the apps you have in your home. Not every app needs to be on the same screen but I think its the app that has the most to do with the biggest list of apps in your home to create a list.
